What is a Novelist?

A novelist is a writer of works of fiction. Some never find their way into the theatre but many find their work translated into plays or films. Some writers adapt their own works for the stage or screen, but the role of playwright and novelist are very different. Writing for theatre is often a collaborative process, working with a director and sometimes with the cast as well. Being a writer can be a very lonely occupation, with only your imagination to keep you company. Most novelists, like most artists, have a person (an agent) who helps them to place their work with publishers.
