Garry's CareerWhen Garry Ferguson was 15 years old, he started his career in theatre as a casual member of crew at a theatre in the Highlands, where he mostly swept the stage. He went to college when he was 18, but felt that he wasn't learning anything new about theatre, so he left. He worked at a variety of small jobs at his local community theatre, and eventually was taken on as assistant stage manager at the Citizens' Theatre in Glasgow. In 1990, he got an opportunity to work at the Tramway, a visual and performing arts venue in Glasgow. It was City of Culture year, so there were lots of European companies around and the theatre scene was extremely active. This gave Garry the opportunity to be involved in more aspects of the production than usual, and he gained knowledge of the technical management side of theatre. From there, he got a job at the Royal Lyceum theatre in Edinburgh as cover for the assistant production manager for 4 weeks, but ended up getting promoted to technical production manager and staying there for 7 years. In July 2003, he got his first job as fully-fledged production manager at the Bristol Old Vic. | | |
