I Want To Be A Deputy Stage ManagerThe qualities you need as a Stage Manager are the ability to think ahead all the time, tact, diplomacy and an even temper. A common route is through the craft areas: set-making, scene painting, or as a stagehand. There are lots of specialist stage management courses up to and including degree level, at institutions such as the London School of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA). There are also access courses for those looking for a new start later in life. The work is demanding and rewarding but don’t expect to make your fortune. There may be extra pay for subsistence and touring. You could expect more in TV or film. The hours can be long, but the good news is that stage managers are always in demand. |
