Henry V Guidance Notes

Stagework is a rich resource for teachers and learners of all ages from Key Stage 2 upwards.

Here are some suggestions for how to get the most out of Stagework.

Students and teachers of English & Drama at Key Stage 3 and 4 in particular will find much that is helpful in the issues and themes discussed in the Productions section. The contemporary relevance of the play is also highlighted in the Issues section under England at War.

Drama teachers and students and teachers of Performing Arts will find useful suggestions for four drama workshops based around the National Theatre 2003 production of Henry V together with useful resources in Events & Workshops.

Again for Drama and Performing Arts the Productions section gives many insights into the productions process, especially the account of rehearsals in the Diary.

Those studying Citizenship may want to look at the contemporary relevance of the way Shakespeare handles the issues surrounding war, conflict resolution and leadership in the sections on Shadow of War, Playing Soldiers and The King, and the issue of diversity in Nationality and Race all in Productions.

The site will also be useful to teachers of ICT looking for examples of rich media materials.

For any young person interested in a career in theatre, on stage or backstage, or in the creative industries as a whole, there is an opportunity to learn more from the horse’s mouth in People.
