Peter Reynolds, Creative Director of ‘Stagework’, led this 3-hour workshop at the National Theatre with actors from the Beasts and Beauties company and students and teachers from three London schools. The workshop can be broken down into three hour-long sessions or, if time permits, run together as a whole. Aims The aim of the workshop is twofold: to explore and value stories (especially personal stories) and to consider the process of adapting written stories into performances. The workshop develops skills in speaking and listening, presentation, and raises awareness of how contemporary issues can be unlocked from ancient texts. Preparation No specific preparation is required either by the workshop leader or the participants. Equipment A collection of costumes from different historical periods including long skirts, assorted hats, pieces of cloth that can be draped, scarves etc. would be fun and useful, but they are not essential. Also, if you have them, a collection of objects (the more peculiar the better) such as an old lantern, an hour glass, or a tribal wooden mask for instance would be helpful but not essential.
